2 Months Old!

Emma is now 2 months old. Time sure does fly by. She has changed tremendously since she was born. She is awake most of the day now and only takes short little naps. But by 6:00 at night, she is starting to sleep more. She just wears herself out. She can hold her head up pretty good. She just gets tired and has too rest. In the next week or two she'll be holding it up all the time. I can't wait. She still sleeps awesome too. She usually just wakes up once to eat and then it's back to sleep. She loves to lay on her tummy and play. She really enjoys her playmat too. We are so excited about her first Halloween. Even though she doesn't understand, she still has a cute Halloween outfit that she will wear all day. I can't wait until next year when she will be walking and can dress up.

Holding Her Head Up

Emma has gotten so good at holding her head up. Josh sat with her for a little while today and practiced with her. She will hold it up for a little while but then gets tired and has to rest. It is so funny watching her facial expressions while she's doing it. It just shows us that she is really getting bigger and will start doing more things as she gets older. This is a huge milestone and we are so proud of her. I guess next thing will be rolling over......can't wait.

2 Month Check-Up

Josh and I took Emma to the pediatrician today for her two month check-up. She weighed in at 9 lbs 11 oz. She gained 11 oz. in one week!! Dr. Lowe said that she is just showing us that she can catch up because she didn't gain weight for so long. However, she is only in the 25th percentile for her age. So she is below normal but not enough where it is a concern. When we weighed her we had to take her diaper off to get an accurate weight and she had pooped..so we took her back to the exam room to clean her up and put a clean diaper on. Well Emma decided that she was going to pee all over herself and all over the table. It was so funny. She just kept peeing and peeing. [you gotta love her] She was also 22 1/2 in. long. She has grown 1 inch since her 1 month check-up. She is in the 55th percentile for her length. Dr. Lowe said she is "long and lean". It is really surprising to me that at 2 months old, she is still in newborn clothes and diapers. She also had to get 2 shots today. It should have been 3 shots but they didn't have one that she needed so she is on a waiting list for it. Emma took the shots like a champ. She cried for about a minute and then Josh picked her up and she was fine. She is getting tylenol every four hours. She has been asleep ever since getting her shots and she will be like that probably the rest of the day. But tomorrow she'll be back to normal. In other news, Emma slept a full 7 hours last night before waking up to eat. She went to sleep around 9:30 and didn't wake up until about 4:30. We fed her and then she fell back asleep and then we all got up around 7:30. We are so proud of her. We gave her a bath this morning and she did everything without screaming. Usually she will do fine while you are washing her but screams when you either get her out or when you are drying her off and dressing her. But she didn't cry at all. I think she actually really liked it. So she is starting to like her baths alot. Hopefully it will continue. It has been a really long day so far. But now that the shots are over, I can kind of relax a little bit. She doesn't have to go back to the doctor until 4 months, so we will have a little break until we have to this all over again. Little "E"s legs after her shots....ofcourse, she had to have Hello Kitty bandaids :]

Playtime

As Emma gets older, she is starting to enjoy more things. She loves sitting in her little infant seat. She goes crazy over that little bee hanging in front of her. She will stare at it forever if you let her. And she loves laying on her tummy too.

8 Weeks Old!

Emma is 8 weeks old today. It's amazing how she changes every single day. She is holding her head up like a champ now. But after a few minutes she gets a little tired and then just lets it fall. It's so cute though. She focuses on everything now. She will follow me with her eyes if I move around the room and she can track our voices too. She knows who mommy and daddy are. She hasn't really gained much weight since she was born. We had to take her to the doctor last Monday because she was constipated and she weighed 9 pounds. Thats only 1 pound over her birth weight. We go back to the doctor on Tuesday for her 2 month checkup so we'll get to see if she gained any more weight this past week. She also has to get her shots. :[ I'm making daddy go because I can't stand to see her get shots. As my mom said the other day...she has grown from being an infant to a baby. She is eating and sleeping great too. In a couple of weeks I am going to move her from sleeping in our room to sleeping in her crib in her own room. She is becoming such a big girl.

[this outfit was supposed to be her "coming home from the hospital outfit"] however, it was WAY too big then...its newborn size and it's still a little big on her....even at 2 months old

Tummy Time

Emma is getting so much better at holding her head up, so I put her on her little playmat so that she could practice some more. I think she was a little too tired for it because she just decided to lay on the pillow instead.[and chew on it] It was the first time she's been on it and I think she liked it for the most part. Once she got tired of being on her tummy I turned her around and just let her lay on her back for a little bit.

Cute Pictures

Here are just a few little cute pictures of our little love bug.
[no....we did not put her hand like that....she did]

Emma's 1st Beach Trip

We left Thursday afternoon for Oak Island. Every October all of Josh's dads brothers and their wives get together and have a little reunion. Emma did absolutely wonderful the way there and back. She slept the entire time. Since the reunion wasn't until Saturday, we drove down to Myrtle Beach on Friday to go to the Carter's outlet to find some winter clothes for Emma. She slept all the way to Myrtle Beach and the whole time we went shopping. We couldn't ask for anything better. We spent most of the day Saturday visiting with everyone. It was the first time any of them had seen Emma. Over all, Emma did very well. She didn't really fuss too much and we were able to really enjoy being there. I am disappointed that we didn't get to take her out on the beach. It was freezing down there and also rainy and windy. :[ I didn't want to take the chance of her getting sick. So we will have to take her next time. Vacation is exhausting :] Emma & Uncle Sam Emma & SherryEmma and Barbara

Play Time

Emma is now about 7 weeks old and she is really starting to take notice of things around her. She likes to look around a lot. Josh and I got her a new playmat that has walls on all four sides with two toy bars. But the best thing is that all of the walls will lay down and it turns into a regular playmat. It's absolutely the coolest thing. She really seems to like it alot. She stayed in it for about 15 minutes today before she started getting fussy. [but maybe that was because of all the flashes of the camera] She also likes sitting in the little infant seat. She likes the way it sits up so that she can see everything.

"Uncle" Brian

This past Wednesday "Uncle Brian" spent the night with us. He and Josh used to work together. Brian lives in South Carolina and was in Greensboro working, so he got to visit with us and see Emma. He and his wife are expecting their first baby [a boy] in January.....so we figured he could use the practice.

6 Weeks Old!

Emma is now 6 weeks old. Time is flying by so fast. She has changed so much since she was born. She is definitely awake a lot more and she is more aware of things around her. She can also hold her head up for about 5-10 seconds before she drops it. She went through a one week period of playing the "not wanting to be put down" game. But I think I finally broke her of that. Ofcourse, when you have a new born...no one(including Josh and I) wants to put her down...so we just have to teach her that she can't be held every minute of the day. She still sleeps great at night. She has absolutely no problem in the sleeping department. This week is going to be so much fun. Josh and I are leaving for the beach on Thursday. It will be Emma's first beach trip. I can't wait to show her the ocean. Hopefully she will love it as much as we do. She's so cute when she sleeps Emma laying in her crib

Katie's Homecoming Dance

Katie had her last homecoming dance on Saturday night. She looked so beautiful.

Weight Check-Up

It took her almost 6 weeks but Emma is FINALLY back up to her birth weight. Today she is 8lbs!!! I am so excited. She isn't gaining weight as well as they would like her to though. Newborns are supposed to gain between 1/2 an ounce to 1 ounce per day. Right now she isn't even gaining the 1/2 ounce per day. But she's getting there. She is eating good and her color looks good so they aren't worried about her. She still seems so little. But I can definitely tell she's gotten longer. Emma is still wearing newborn clothes too. Before she was born, I figured that she would wear newborn clothes maybe 2 weeks, but they are still a little big on her so I guess we are getting our moneys worth out of them. I am so glad that she is finally gaining weight.

Swingin'

Today, I decided to put Emma in her swing. We put her in it when she got home from the hospital but she was too small for it. But I tried it again today, and she loved it. I still have to put some blankets under her because she still doesn't fit in it right.

Happy Birthday Mom!

Yesterday was my moms birthday. We all went over to her house and had dinner and cake. It was so much fun hanging out with the whole family. Mom blowing out her candles Mom got a BodyBugg Katie & Emma
